Honoring Scott Joplin in HD: “A Real Slow Drag”

2011 is the 100th anniversary of Scott Joplin’s groundbreaking (and ultimately tragic) opera Treemonisha.    And after hearing a recording by the Max Morath Quartet on YouTube of the beautiful bittersweet finale “A Real Slow Drag,” I got a bee in my bonnet to hear it plucked out on the harp. Fortunately, we’re lucky to have in our Boston backyard the amazing Moldovan harpist Ina Zdorovetchi, who took up the challenge with gusto, and great taste. Ragtime on the harp sounds just fine, thank you very much!

And Joplin is making a little more history: Below is our very first HD performance video shot in our Fraser Performance Studio….not to mention the launch of our video channels both on You Tube and Vimeo.

(There’s another video of Ina playing Liszt here.) Kudos to videographer Greg Shea, audio engineer Antonio Oliart Ros, and producer Alan McLellan…
